PE News - Week 9

Congratulations are in order for our Senior Girls Swim team this week. Last Saturday 8 girls between the ages of 13 and 15 travelled to Al Ain to compete against 7 other Choueifat schools in the annual swim gala. Almost our entire team placed in 2nd and 3rd in their individual races and two students came away with golds. Well done to Lara Ezzeddine from grade 8 on coming first in the u13 50m freestyle. Lara came in at an impressive time of 41.87 seconds which was also her personal best. Fay Oueini of 9A stole the show, as she not only won both her races impressively but also managed to break a Choueifat record. Fay’s first race of the day was 25m freestyle which she won with a time of 17.38 seconds. However, the highlight came when she swam 50m freestyle in 39.51 seconds; five seconds faster than the next swimmer. Our u15 relay team also deserves well earned recognition as they came in 2nd and 3rd in both the 4x25m freestyle and 4x25m medley relays respectively. Well done to all the swimmers involved for their hard work and training over the past number of weeks. We are looking forward to more competitions coming up in term 2.

This week saw the close of our SLO Sports, Health and Hygiene Campaign which ran for the month of October. We certainly ended the campaign on a high with another fun-filled Student vs. Teachers game. This week it was Boys Basketball and the Boys from grade 8 to 11 did very well against a very strong teacher’s side. Although the teachers clinched the win, students and teachers gathered and cheered on what proved to be a thrilling spectacle. There is no doubt that these friendly games have been massively successful and create a buzz around the school in the lead up. Thanks again to our SLO for organizing these events and we will certainly be arranging some rematches in term 2!

All the best to Mr. Alex and his Senior Boys Swim team who are set to travel to Abu Dhabi this weekend for the annual Inter Choueifat gala. This year’s team shows terrific promise and we wish the boys from grades 8 and 9 the best of luck. Hopefully this Saturday DIP will manage to break more Choueifat records.
